At Northwest Bifolds, having expertise in bifolding doors is not just about providing new doors. It’s also about having the knowledge and know-how to put right problems with doors.
As bifolding doors become more desirable, they also become more available from a variety of sources. As well as specialist bifolding door providers, builders are also capitalising on the growing bifolding door market. It’s fair to say that the vast majority of builders large and small do excellent work and provide a great service. But there are also situations when things can go badly wrong.
Rectifying problems with bifolding doors.
North West bifolds came to the assistance of one homeowner in Runcorn that had a big problem with her new bifolding doors. A builder had installed the doors, and they were not as expected. The doors were supplied the wrong configuration and did not have the required traffic door. There was no cill fitted at the base; the installation was unsatisfactory, and the all important bifolding door threshold was too high and not providing the convenience and aesthetics intended. At an overall width of nearly 6 metres, these were substantial doors.
A bifolding door and a quality one at that does not come cheap. At a cost of £7000, to suddenly find herself with doors that are wrong understandably left this customer with a huge dilemma. Do they replace the existing doors or can a specialist be found to rectify the issues with the existing doors and minimise the extra costs that are inevitable?
How bifolding doors are configured and installed is vital to the function they perform. While mistakes such as these are rare, the sheer size of the doors and where they are situated meant that the mistakes made could not be lived with and accepted.
We were pleased to help find a solution.
How North West bifolds provided a solution to a bifolding door problem.
The nature of the work meant that the existing doors could not be salvaged. However, we know that the glass cost is a substantial part of the overall price of a bifold. We were able to redesign the doors cleverly to provide the right configuration and other requirements while utilising the existing glass. This provided a significant cost saving to our customer rather than provide brand new glass with the new sets of doors.
The old doors were a four pane configuration with a large sidelight to the one side. We provided a set of six-panel bifolding doors with an access leaf on the one side and the remaining five leaves sliding in the opposite direction.
The result is one that we hope our customer is happy with. We were advised that over ten companies were contacted to help rectify the original problem and either none were interested in carrying out the rectification works and others simply never bothered to provide a price.
